India’s Tech Talent Boom IT Jobs Soaring Across Non-Tech Sectors In a sweeping transformation of the job market, India is witnessing a surging demand for IT jobs that spans across a multitude of sectors, including non-tech companies such as banks, FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods), and aerospace firms. This transition towards digitalization and online transactions is driving the need for tech professionals in unexpected corners of the business world.
Prasadh M S, the Head of Workforce Research at Xpheno, has unveiled a striking statistic, indicating nearly 90,000 active tech job openings in India. What’s even more intriguing is that approximately two-thirds of these job opportunities lie within non-tech domains, underscoring the growing importance of technology skills in industries beyond the traditional IT sector.
Non-tech firms are gearing up for substantial growth in tech talent, with anticipated year-on-year increments of 9-10% expected in 2024, along with generous salary increases ranging between 12-14%. In contrast, IT companies are projecting more modest wage hikes, falling within the range of 6-7%, while simultaneously increasing external hiring by 10-15%.
The objective on the horizon for these businesses is ambitious yet essential – to recruit one million tech professionals by 2025-26. The focus of this recruitment drive extends to key sectors, including BFSI (Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance), telecom, media, and public sector undertakings (PSUs). These companies are particularly interested in acquiring talent skilled in java full stack development, cyber-security, data science, and entry-level positions.
